Planning an extension

Planning your project is the most important part of any build. We have architects and structural engineers who we can recommend to get you started.

Planning permission

Depending on your proposed project you may or may not need planning permission. You can find out from your local District Council

If you require planning permission an architect will need to submit drawings for your project. You will also require a building engineer's calculations for any structural work.

Permitted development

Permitted development rights allow householders to improve and extend their homes without the need to seek a specific planning permission where that would be out of proportion with the impact of works carried out.

Some requirements of permitted development might be the height and the size of your project.

Advice regarding permitted development can be sought from your local Council.

Building regulations

Building regulations consent is different to planning permission and permitted development. You will need to check whether you need approval.

Some refurbishment projects may require Building Regulations Consent, such as;
